Narrow Gauge Book Cooperative is happy to announce participation in the 11th Anniversary of Independent Bookstore Day.

On Saturday, April 27, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., the store will have exclusive, limited-edition items that are available only for Independent Bookstore Day participants.

At 10 a.m  join Julia Baldwin (and her dog, Daphne), author of “Daphne Doo, the Peculiar Pug,”  at the Alamosa Public Library for a story time event. Then walk over to the NGBC at 11 a.m. for a book signing and goodie bags for the kids.

Narrow Gauge’s annual membership drive also begins on April 27. Memberships are $25 for the year; members receive a $10 credit for every $200 spent in store. New members will receive a voucher for a free used book, to be used that day or in the future. Renewing members will receive a $5 coupon to be used that day or in the future.

Independent Bookstore Day (Indie Bookstore Day) was established in 2013 to promote, celebrate, and highlight the value of the Independent bookstore community. The day has been observed on the last Saturday of April every year since 2013. This year there are more than 900 stores participating across the country.

Independent Bookstore Day is organized by the American Booksellers Association, a national not-for-profit trade organization, that works with booksellers and industry partners to ensure the success and profitability of independently owned book retailers, and to assist in expanding the community of the book.

Narrow Gauge Book Coop is located at 602 Main St. in Downtown Alamosa.

About the Narrow Gauge Book Cooperative

In 2018, the beloved Narrow Gauge Newsstand closed its doors, and the community came

together to open the Narrow Gauge Book Cooperative in August of 2018. With more than 100 owners, and even more members, the NGBC sells new and used books, gift items from local artists and small businesses, and hosts author events, a book club, and other activities throughout the year. The Co-op is staffed by a mix of paid and volunteer booksellers. The NGBC is a testament to our community’s love of books, and their affection for a well-curated indie bookstore.
